What the collection displays

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection presents modern art in Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, Peggy Guggenheim’s former home on the Grand Canal. The collection includes works by Arshile Gorky, Jackson Pollock and Mark Rothko.

Guggenheim returned to Europe in 1947 and showed her collection at the 1948 Venice Biennale in the Greek pavilion. From 1951, she opened her home and collection to the public several afternoons a week in spring, summer and early autumn. She donated the palazzo in 1970 and her collection in 1976 to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation.

What can you combine with a Dorsoduro museum visit?

What can you combine with a Dorsoduro museum visit?

The museum fits naturally into a Dorsoduro art-and-landmark route: Venice’s official tourism itinerary connects it with the Basilica of Santa Maria della Salute, Punta della Dogana and the Gallerie dell’Accademia. These nearby sights make it easy to plan a day around the district’s art and landmarks.

You can bring pencils, sketchbooks and notebooks into the museum, but pens, paints and easels are not permitted.

A walk through Dorsoduro can connect the district with San Marco and the city’s central sights; the Dorsoduro-to-San Marco walking itinerary follows that route.
